Mayfair will soon welcome a lavish new venue launched by the restaurant group founded by ‘Chef of the Century, Joël Robouchon.

L’Atelier Robouchon will be the newest feather in the cap of the Joël Robuchon International group, which oversees more than 20 restaurant world-wide when it opens on Clarges Street later this month.

Dubbed “Chef of the Century” by French language Michelin guide competitor Gault & Millau, Joël Robuchon was a celebrated chef who in 2016 held the most Michelin stars out of any with 32 stars. He died from cancer in 2018.

L’Atelier Robouchon will be an incarnation of sorts of Covent Garden’s Michelin-starred L’Atelier, which closed following Joel’s death.

Opening September 21, the restaurant will be headed up by Executive Chef Andrea Cofini who will continue the legacy of the legendary trend-bucking “rebel” chef.

The menu will feature some of Robuchon’s most well-known dishes including puree de pomme de terre, which has been described as the best mashed potatoes in the world thanks to the 2:1 potato butter ratio. Cofini will add his own personality to dishes as well, with accents of Asian flavours, which also echoes Joël love of Japanese cuisine.

The restaurant will also see the return of the much-loved dessert trolley which will display sweet treats fresh from the kitchen including patisserie classics.  Another trolley will be dedicated to the best southern French and Italian cheeses.

The classical wine list comes with a strong French and old world influence and includes many small family own vineyards. Up to 40 wines will be available by the glass, with prices ranging from £9 to a whopping £195.

The 74-seater restaurant that comes with a bar will be as grand, elegant space, with a sweeping marble countertop a perfect vantage point for watching the chefs at work.

Similar to the Covent Garden restaurant, the dining room will be dressed in red and black accents, and the bar will host live music and DJs in the evenings.
