Five London restaurants have been named in Tripadvisor’s 2023 Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best.

Venues with “a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions” from the Tripadvisor community over a 12-month period, received the award, with Tripadvisor adding that each winner passed the online reviewing platform “rigorous trust and safety standards”.

Tripadvisor also stated that fewer than one per cent of its 8million listings have been named Best of the Best.

Found in Borough Market, Kensington, Camden, City and Finchley, the five London restaurants made it into the top 10 restaurants in the categories of fine dining, hidden gems, vegetarian and every day eats, and they are as follows.

1 mallow, Borough Market – Vegetarian

This fully plant-based restaurant by the Mildreds team took out the top spot for the vegetarian category, and now has a second location in Canary Wharf. Found in an exposed brick dining room in the throng of the south London market, dishes are hearty and are internationally inspired, taking ques from India, South America, Asia and across Europe.

One reviewer said that the food at mallow can’t  be topped. They added: “Oh my word, this place is awesome. We are two people in our fifties who have been vegan for decades. We have eaten great food over the years but this place is a cut above the rest. We had the most sublime experience.”

2 Launceston Place, Kensington – Fine Dining

Kensington’s Launceston Place ranked tenth in the fine dining category. The European and British restaurant has a slew of accolades including a Michelin Guide recommendation. Head Chef Ben Murphy was named Chef to Watch 2016 by The Good Food Guide and won the Breakthrough Chef of the year gong at the Food & travel Awards. It’s also ranked 70th out of all restaurants in London, by tripadvisor users.

A recent Tripadvisor review described Launceston Place as “a must go”, stating that “a Michelin star is due”.

Another Indian restaurant, this one found on Cannon Street in the City, came in sixth place in the Hidden Gem category. The restaurant has two other locations, in Shoreditch and near Monument.

I’m so lucky that this is my local Indian restaurant. I’d say the best, most delicious and quality food and service around. Good prices too.”
